FWAA Tabs Brooks to Second Team All-America List

Brooks was named a second team All-American by four of five of the NCAA recognized publications
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior linebacker Jordyn Brooks garnered possibly his final All-America honor Thursday as he was named a second-team selection by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).

Brooks, a native of Houston, ends the season as an All-American on four of the five teams formally recognized by the NCAA. He was also a second team All-America selection by the Walter Camp Foundation, the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

In addition, Brooks was also recognized as a second team All-American by The Athletic and Pro Football Focus following a stellar senior season that featured 108 tackles, including an impressive 20.0 that came from behind the line of scrimmage.

Brooks' impressive stat line came despite playing in only 11 contests and missing the bulk of the TCU game in early November. His 108 tackles earsily marked the most of Brooks' four-year career as he also added three sacks, 12 quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

Brooks dropped an opponent behind the line of scrimmage in all 11 games en route to ending the regular season ranked third in the FBS for tackles for a loss per game (1.8). His 20.0 tackles for a loss on the season marked the most for a Red Raider since Adell Duckett set the school record with 24.5 in 2003.

Brooks, the Big 12 leader for tackles for a loss, also ranked fifth in solo tackles per game (6.0) and 13th in total tackles per game (9.8) among FBS defenders. Up until his injury during the West Virginia game, Brooks was the only player nationally to rank in the top 10 for all three categories.

One of the top linebacker prospects in next spring's NFL Draft, Brooks wrapped his Tech career with 367 tackles, seventh-most in program history and the third-highest total by a Red Raider during the Big 12 era.
