Mays, Miller Advance to Doubles Semis at Norman Open

NORMAN, Okla. – Texas Tech women's tennis players Lisa Mays and Nell Miller advanced to the main draw doubles semifinals at the Norman Open on Thursday afternoon, pulling off a three-set win on Thursday.

The Texas Tech tandem earned their second doubles win in main draw action at the event, as they took down Keisha Clousing and Emma Davis. Mays and Miller bounced back from dropping the first set, 6-4, with a 6-3 win of their own in the second set. In the decisive third that was to be decided via 10-point supertiebreaker, Mays and Miller were able to hold off Guillermo and Shaffer, 10-8, to take the match.

The win follows an impressive performance on Tuesday when the duo knocked off No. 2 seeds Lorraine Guillermo and Kennedy Shaffer. The pair will face Emerald Able and Sophia Abrams in the semifinals on Friday.

Miller also saw impressive success on the singles side at the tournament, drawing a pair of wins earlier in the week in qualifying to advance to the tournament's main draw. Miller would go on to knock off Muskan Mahajan, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round of main draw play, but came up short to the top seed Pamela Montez in the second round.
