Mays, Miller to Compete for Pro Doubles Title in Norman
December 06, 2019 | Women's Tennis
NORMAN, Okla. – Texas Tech women's tennis players Lisa Mays and Nell Miller will compete for a pro doubles title on Saturday at the Norman Open, after winning their semifinal match in straight sets Friday afternoon.
Mays and Miller moved to 3-0 on the week with their 6-2, 7-5 victory in the tournament semifinals over Emerald Able and Sophie Abrams on Friday. That win followed up a pair of three-set wins to open the week—one over the second-seeded tandem of Lorraine Guillermo and Kennedy Shaffer on Tuesday and another over Keisha Clousing and Emma Davis on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
The two Lady Raiders will match up with Carmen Corley and Ivana Corley. It will be a Big 12 final, as Ivana Corley is on the tennis roster at Oklahoma.
Miller also saw impressive success on the singles side at the tournament, drawing a pair of wins earlier in the week in qualifying to advance to the tournament's main draw. Miller would go on to knock off Muskan Mahajan, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round of main draw play, but came up short to the top seed Pamela Montez in the second round.
If Mays and Miller are able to get the win on Saturday, it would mark the first career pro doubles title for both.
