The junior infielder was selected to the collegiate slugger watch list.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Josh Jung was named to the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List, the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation announced.
The BBCSA is based on performance at the plate, academics and personal integrity, as nominations were open to all Division-I baseball programs in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico.
Â
Jung, a junior infielder from San Antonio, Texas, was one of 30 student-athletes named to the watch list. A finalist for the award in 2018, Jung is one of five players to appear on the watch list multiple years. Texas Tech's Hunter Hargrove was awarded the inaugural honor by the foundation in 2017.
Â
Jung put together a phenomenal sophomore campaign in 2018 as he led the Big 12 in several offensive categories, including batting (.392 avg.), hits (103) and RBI (80). His hit total finished third nationally while his RBI total ranked fourth in the country. Jung also totaled 12 home runs, 17 doubles, a team-leading six triples and 69 runs scored in 2018.
Â
It's been a preseason full of accolades for Jung, who is one of four players nationally to receive unanimous First Team All-America status with six preseason honors. Additionally, he was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year by the league office on Jan. 30 while being tabbed to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team. He was also placed on the Golden Spikes Award Watch List last week.
Â
The BBCSA will announce finalists in May. The winner of the third annual Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award, presented by SR Bats, will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall.
Â
Jung and the No. 3 Red Raiders are set to open the 2019 campaign on Friday, Feb. 15, against Oregon at 2 p.m. from Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
