Limp Named Big 12 Athlete of the Week

Tech senior recognized after top-five 400m time.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior Sara Limp became the Red Raiders' fourth Big 12 Athlete of the Week Wednesday, locking up the honors after a huge 400m run at the Texas Tech Shootout last weekend.
Quoted earlier in the week as saying she would need to run a mid-52 to solidify a spot at nationals, Limp did just that at the Texas Tech Shootout by turning in a 52.51 for the easy win. Limp's time was the second-fastest in program history, and it rocketed her up the national rankings from 12th in the country to fifth. Even converted for altitude, Limp has a solid hold on the Big 12 lead.
The Californian began the race trailing Texas' Serenity Douglas, but it was her move on the lane break that propelled her not only to the win but also to a career-best.
"I told myself that I was going to be first to the break because those first 200m set up the ending," she said after the race.
Limp's 400m time had much larger ramifications than showing she is a contender for the national title. Her mark played a huge part in pushing Tech's women's squad up nine spots in the USTFCCCA's Track & Field Rating Index. The Red Raiders had dropped four spots over the previous two weeks to 20th, but Limp – along with several other members of the women's squad who used the Shootout to turn in great performances – has the team knocking on the door of the top-10. Moreover, Tech's women's squad was rated as the top in the Big 12 in the USTFCCCA's first conference rankings of the season.
"Our team is just better with confidence," Limp said of her group. "We're ready for Big 12s."
