Red Raiders in Second After Amer Ari Opening Round

KONA, Hawaii – Texas Tech sophomore Kyle Hogan shot 6-under-par to lead the Red Raiders who were 19-under as a team and are in second place at The Amer Ari Invitational after the opening round on Thursday at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
The Red Raiders finished the first of three rounds with a 269 team total in the 18-team field, while No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State is 21-under and leading the tournament going into Friday's second round. Oregon is in third in the team standings at 17-under, while No. 2 Georgia Tech and No. 8 Southern Cal are tied for fourth with 277 totals. Hogan's round of 66 puts him in a tie for third place individually, while Sandy Scott shot 6-under and in seventh.
Texas Tech, which is playing in its first tournament of the spring schedule, finished as the Amer Ari Invitational runner-up last season after winning the tournament title in 2017.
A Cypress native, Hogan completed his opening round in Hawaii with six birdies and 12 pars. He was 4-under on par 4s on the day where he played bogey-free golf. Scott is just one shot back of Hogan after the first of three rounds after he also played the course without a bogey on Thursday. The Scotland native carded his 5-under 67 with three birdies on par 4s.
Ramirez and Blomme find themselves in a tie for 12th at the tournament after pair of Red Raider seniors shot 4-under. Ramirez led Tech with seven birdies in the opening round to respond to three bogeys, while Blomme joined Hogan and Scott with a bogey-free round. Blomme completed his first 18 in Hawaii with four birdies for the round of 68. Texas Tech sophomore Thomas Allkins shot 2-under playing as an individual in the tournament, while freshman Jansen Smith shot a 79.
Oklahoma State's Zach Bauchou leads the tournament at 9-under, followed by Ryan Gronlund (Oregon) who is at 7-under one shot ahead of Hogan and Viktor Hovland (OSU), Jared Kinoshita (Hawaii-Hilo) and Sam Foust (Oregon). Back in the team standings, TCU shot a 279 (9-under) and is in sixth while No. 14 Texas is in ninth with a 281 total.
The tournament will resume at 11:30 a.m. (CST) on Friday before the final round on Saturday. The Red Raiders will be paired with Oklahoma State, Oregon and Georgia Tech on Friday.
