Red Raiders begin Wes Kittley Invite with wins in 5k, field events.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech concluded its first day at Abilene Christian's Wes Kittley Invitational. The Red Raiders not only picked up wins in three events, but did so with impressive marks in each.Â
Â
Duke Kicinski got his indoor campaign going with the second-furthest discus mark in program history – a strong sign for the Red Raider seeking to return to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year. Kicinski's toss was measured at 207'-8" (63.35m), plenty far to win the final. Women's discus was highlighted by Seasons Usual, who recorded a 171'-7" (52.30m) to place second.Â
Â
Elsewhere in throws, Werner Bouwer impressed in the javelin. The South Africa native's longest throw came in at 229'-2.75" (69.87m), counting as his best since 2017 when he earned All-America status at nationals.Â
Â
Seselia Dala led Tech on the track, clocking a personal-best 17:19.71 to win the 5000m. Dala ran the 5k twice indoors before kicking off her spring with the PR. On the men's side, Nathan Gift led the way with a second-place 15:10.01. Stephen Alvarez (seventh place) and Michael Benoit (eighth) also ran, with Benoit's 15:21.07 counting as a collegiate best.Â
Â
The second day of action in Abilene will begin Saturday with the long jump at 10:30 a.m. Live results will not be available, but updates will be provided on Twitter at @TexasTechTF. A full recap will also be available following the conclusion of the meet.Â
