Red Raiders Host First Practice Under Wells Sunday
March 02, 2019 | Football
Texas Tech will hold eight practices before opening the Spring Series on March 30
LUBBOCK, Texas – Since his hire as Texas Tech's new head coach this past December, Matt Wells has stated every player on the Red Raiders' roster had a clean slate.
Â
That meant no deep dives into last year's film or evaluations based on stats or even reputation. Wells simply wanted to make his own judgment when he saw each player.
Â
He'll get that first opportunity Sunday afternoon when Tech opens spring drills with a closed practice inside Jones AT&T Stadium. It will be the first of 15 practices allocated each spring by the NCAA, which includes the Texas Tech Spring Series Presented by Double Eagle.
Â
The Red Raiders will host three practices over the next week before breaking for Spring Break. Tech will return to the practice field March 19 for its first of eight workouts prior to the March 30 scrimmage inside Jones AT&T Stadium.
Â
Wells, who inherits seven returning starters on both side of the ball, will also take the Red Raiders to Midland on April 5 for the Permian Basin scrimmage and then to Frisco on April 13 for the annual Spring Game.
