No. 10 Red Raiders Return To California

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team will play its final regular-season tournament of the year this weekend at the El Macero Classic in California starting on Friday with the final round Sunday at the El Macero Country Club.
The No. 10-ranked Red Raiders will be represented at the 54-hole tournament by Sandy Scott, Ivan Ramirez, Adam Blomme, Kyle Hogan, Markus Braadlie and Jansen Smith who will be playing as an individual at the par-72, 7,108-yard course in El Macero, California. Tech, which is scheduled to begin play at 10:55 a.m. (CST) on Friday, completed one round last weekend at the Aggie Invitational in Bryan before rain canceled the event at the Traditions Golf Club. Ramirez shot 4-under in his opening round and Scott was 1-under.
The Red Raiders will be competing against UC Davis, Cal State Fullerton, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Nevada, Oregon State, Pacific, Sacramento State, San Francisco, No. 50 Southern Methodist and Washington State. Tech will be paired with UC Davis and SMU during Friday's opening round.
Texas Tech is coming off a second-place finish at the Lake Charles Invitational two weeks ago in Lake Charles, Louisiana led by Scott who finished as the tournament after shooting 64-65-74 – 203 which was 13-under-par. A junior from Scotland, Scott is currently ranked No. 16 in the nation with a 70.20 scoring average this season and has earned a spot on the Arnold Palmer Cup International Team along with Ramirez. A senior from Colombia, Ramirez is ranked No. 74 nationally while Blomme is at No. 76. Blomme finished at 4-under in the last tournament in Lake Charles. Ramirez and Blomme both shot 3-under at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas to finish tied for ninth at the event. Hogan is coming off his best finish of his season after finishing fourth in Louisiana where he shot 70-69-65 – 204 at the Lake Charles three-round tournament.
The Red Raiders have won one tournament this season after earning the Desert Classic title back on Feb. 24 in Palm Springs, California and has two runner-up finishes this season. Tech has five top-5 showings in seven team-tournaments this season coming into its third tournament in California.
This weekend's tournament will lead into the Big 12 Conference Championships on April 26-28 in at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
