Koulizakis gets hat trick, Davis knocks in two in win over Lubbock Christian.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech returned home for the first time in a month and netted five goals while shutting out Lubbock Christian for its third win of the spring season. Tech's two starting forwards racked up five goals in the affair, three of which came from Demi Koulizakis as she picked up the hat trick.
Head coach Tom Stone praised the two forwards when addressing the team afterwards, speaking on how satisfying it is when good play from strikers results in balls finding the back of the net.
The Lady Chaps, against whom the Red Raiders have never played despite the two programs residing just miles apart, kept Tech without a goal through the first 17 minutes of the first half. Several Red Raider breakaways resulted in high or wide shots until Kirsten Davis one-timed a deflected cross attempt by Savanna Jones off the lower left post and in to open scoring. Just six minutes later, Charlotte Teeter drove a perfect ball through to a sprinting Davis, who leapt over a diving LCU keeper, caught up to the ball, and slotted it home for the game's second score.Demi Koulizakis got in on the action with two minutes remaining in the 40-minute half when she broke in front of a Lady Chaps defender to knock in a free kick cross from Jordie Harr. The goal would push the score to 3-0 as the teams entered the locker room.
Two more goals awaited Koulizakis when she and her teammates emerged for the second half, which was scheduled to be just 30 minutes in length. She found the net for the second time of the game in the 50th minute when Davis sent a hard cross towards the forward, who met the ball in front of goal and sent it in to make it 4-0. Just four minutes later, Harr again fed Koulizakis right in front of net, making it easy on the Sydney, Australia, native to pick up the hat trick.
The Red Raiders held the Lady Chaps scoreless, making it two shutouts on the spring for a program that places high value on clean sheets. Marissa Zucchetto stood in net for 50 minutes before being relieved by Averi Isaacs for the remaining 20. Neither faced a single shot.
Mirroring what they will see in the fall, the Red Raiders have just two days before lacing up again. Tech's final exhibition of the spring will take place Saturday against New Mexico, a club with which the Red Raiders schedule a game nearly every spring and every fall and are very familiar with. First touch will be at 2 p.m.
