Patrick Mahomes II was selected to grace the EA Sports Madden NFL 20 cover Thursday night
LUBBOCK, Texas – After one of the most impressive debuts in league history, reigning NFL MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes II will grace the cover of EA Sports Madden NFL 20.
The announcement was made Thursday evening prior to the opening round of the NFL Draft where Mahomes joined the College Gameday crew as part of ESPN's live coverage from downtown Nashville, Tennessee. He is slated to join the Gameday crew throughout the evening on ABC.
"The last year has been life-changing for me and landing the cover of Madden NFL 20 is both a huge honor and a dream come true as a lifelong Madden fan," Mahomes said in the announcement by EA SPORTS. "I played Madden with my dad when I was a kid, and this is definitely a full circle moment for me."
As part of EA's announcement, Madden 20 will feature a new personalized career campaign titled Face of the Franchise: QB1, which was inspired by Mahomes, who also contributed to the project. In this mode, fans can create their own college quarterback to play through the College Football Playoff, the NFL Combine and the NFL Draft before embarking on a career as a starting NFL quarterback.
In Face of the Franchise: QB1 and the traditional Franchise mode, users will face "unique playable scenarios, events and dynamic challenges that build the story of each fan's distinct NFL career." Texas Tech will be one of 10 participating schools that users will be available to select.
Mahomes, an avid video game enthusiast himself, is the first Red Raider featured on the Madden cover, which is among the highest honors for NFL athletes. Mahomes is coming off a historic 2018 campaign where he became only the second NFL quarterback all-time to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in the same season.
Dating back to his time as a Red Raider, he is the only quarterback in history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a season at both the collegiate and NFL levels.
