Brown Named Athlete of the Week by Big 12
April 03, 2019 | Track and Field
Long jumper ranks top in the nation and 10th in the world.
IRVING, Texas – Texas Tech long jumper Charles Brown was announced as the Big 12's Men's Athlete of the Week Wednesday. It is the second time in three weeks a Red Raider has picked up a conference weekly award.
For the second year in a row, Brown recorded his longest jump of the season at the Texas Relays. The senior landed a leap of 26'-5.75" (8.07m) with wind, which comes in at seventh in the world and sixth in program history for wind-aided marks. Combined with wind-legal marks, it ranks 10th. The distance placed him second and, for the second straight year, top among collegiate competitors. He is now the top-ranked long jumper in the country.
Brown was honored twice last spring for his long jumping, leading the conference in the award. It is the third of his career, placing him one away from tying Kansas' Mason Finley's four from 2010-12. The Red Raiders handily lead the Big 12 in Outdoor Men's Athlete of the Week awards with 33 since it was introduced in 2002.
Brown will head to College Station for Texas A&M's The Reveille.
