Red Raiders Repeat as Dual Meet Champions
May 01, 2019 | Track and Field
Red Raiders take crown with defeat of top-ranked Nebraska.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's men's track and field team repeated as kings of the Track and Field News Dual Meet Rankings after a defeat of top-ranked Nebraska at last weekend's Corky/Crofoot Shootout. The women's squad, who also defeated the Cornhuskers, placed third in the national rankings.
Saturday's dual meet against the Cornhuskers and Wichita State was Tech's lone scored dual of the season. The Red Raiders, who racked up 147 points to Nebraska's 139 and Wichita State's 103, finished the season 2-0. The women's team also finished 2-0 after scoring 157 points to Nebraska's 144. Wichita State's women finished with 94 points.Â
Â
This season marks the second straight year the men's side took down the Cornhuskers, who entered Lubbock with a perfect record of 6-0, for the title. Tech's marks – both at the Shootout and previously in the season – sealed the top spot for Tech.
Â
Tech's women's squad also hopped Nebraska in the rankings, a big accomplishment considering the Cornhuskers' women's team were also 6-0 entering the Shootout, to go from unranked to third in the country. Third is the highest the Lady Raiders have ever finished.
Â
Texas Tech will be back in action for its final home meet of the season, the Masked Rider Open, on Saturday, May 4th.
