RJ Turner signed an athletic scholarship agreement Monday after three seasons at Louisiana-Monroe
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells continued to add depth to the Red Raider roster Monday with the signing of wide receiver RJ Turner to an athletic scholarship agreement.
Turner, who will arrive in Lubbock this summer from Louisiana-Monroe, will have one season of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2019 season. He becomes the fourth graduate transfer to sign with the Red Raiders over the last three weeks alone.
Turner collected 90 catches for 1,662 yards and 10 touchdowns during his three seasons in Monroe where he earned All-Sun Belt third team accolades in 2017. He led the Sun Belt by averaging 17.6 yards per catch that season and also led the Warhawks in touchdown receptions and finished second overall in receiving yards.
A year later, Turner again bolstered Monroe's receiving corps, hauling in 36 receptions for 526 yards and a touchdown over 11 games. Turner, a native of Natchitoches, Louisiana, led Monroe in receiving yards as a redshirt freshman in 2016, totaling 433 yards and three touchdowns through the air off 23 receptions.
Turner signed with Monroe following a successful prep career at Natchitoches Central High School where he was a first team All-State honoree as a senior. Turner, who also starred as a sprinter for the school's track and field program, led Natchitoches with 50 receptions for 986 yards and 15 touchdowns his senior year.
In addition to Turner, Tech has also signed the likes of defensive back Zech McPhearson (Penn State), linebacker Evan Rambo (Cal) and running back Armand Shyne (Utah) in recent weeks.
