Ramirez, Scott to Compete at Arnold Palmer Cup

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's Sandy Scott and Ivan Ramirez will compete this weekend at the Arnold Palmer Cup at The Alotian Club in Roland, Arkansas. Â
The 23rd annual Ryder Cup-style competition is set for Friday through Sunday and will be the first to be played in the United States with men's and women's USA collegiate golfers against their counterparts from around the world. The pair of Red Raiders will compete for the Arnold Palmer Cup International team after earning automatic qualification. Scott and Ramirez are both coming off seasons for Texas Tech where they earned PING All-Region honors and helped lead the program to its 18th straight NCAA tournament appearance.
For the first time since its 1997 debut, the Arnold Palmer Cup will be live-streamed worldwide via GOLFChannel.com. Streaming will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday during the mixed fourball format followed by coverage starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday before the final day at 11 a.m. on Sunday with singles matches. Live online scoring and additional information can be found at ArnoldPalmerCup.com throughout the tournament.
A junior from Scotland, Scott is at No. 16 nationally in the Golfstat player rankings following a season where he recorded six top-10 finishes and earned his first collegiate victory by winning the El Macero Classic. He was named to the All-Big 12 team after establishing a new program record with a 70.2 scoring average. In the final regular-season tournament of the year, Scott was 3-under-par (75-66-72 – 213) to claim the El Macero Classic individual title and helped lead the Red Raiders to their second tournament championship of the season. He would earned Big 12 Championship All-Tournament honors last month after shooting 5-under and finishing fifth at The Greenbrier with a three-round 69-70-66 – 205 scorecard.
Scott played in nine tournament this season, finishing with the program-best 70.2 scoring average and also with five top-5 showings. Along with his win at the El Macero, Scott earned a runner-up showing at the Lake Charles Invitational after shooting 13-under at the three-round event with a 64-65-74 – 203 scorecard. His top-5 finishes included taking fourth in his first tournament of the season at the Showdown in the Rockies in September and also at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. Â
A senior from Colombia, Ramirez completed his collegiate career last week by finishing 12th overall at the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional where he finished the three-round tournament at 3-under. He had four top-10 finishes this season, including a season-best runner-up result at the El Macero Classic where he was at 2-under and only one stroke behind Scott on the individual leaderboard. He was ninth at The Carmel Cup after shooting 8-under in the team's season opener and also ninth at the Southern Highlands Collegiate where he was at 3-under during the three rounds in Las Vegas. Ramirez averaged 71.3 in 30 rounds played this season.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Fla. in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top male university/college golfers matching the United States against Europe. In 2018, the participants will include corresponding women golfers who will be added to both the USA and International teams and will thus become the only major tournament which features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
GOLF Channel's on-site social media coverage will include dedicated Facebook Live activations with on-air personalities and players in the field, as well as Instagram and Twitter content via the network's social media handles. Social media host Alexandra O'Laughlin will contribute to GOLF Channel's social media channels on-site throughout the tournament. Since its inception, 97 former Arnold Palmer Cup alumni have gone on to earn cards on either the PGA or European Tours, 22 alumni have gone on to represent Europe or the USA in the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup, and 47 have claimed 170 victories on the PGA or European Tours. The United States leads the series 10-9-1.
