Travis Bruffy was named a nominee for the prestigious Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on Tuesday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior offensive lineman Travis Bruffy was named a nominee Tuesday for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, an annual award given to the top football student-athletes who make an impact off the field.
Bruffy was one of 137 student-athletes from across the country who were recognized for their community involvement. The list will be trimmed to a final 22-member team selected by a voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members and prominent media members from across the country.
In addition to his role on the offensive line, Bruffy has been a regular in the Lubbock community over his career, visiting local elementary schools multiple times a semester to read to students. He has also volunteered locally for both the Boys and Girls Club and the Special Olympics.
Bruffy is the president of the Texas Tech chapter of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) where he has been instrumental in creating a "I Got Your Back" mental health awareness campaign as well as the "ReSAACyle" competition among his fellow student-athletes.
Bruffy, a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team honoree, is a representative on the Big 12 SAAC and most recently attended the NCAA Autonomy Convention where he was one of only four football student-athletes to receive a vote on important NCAA legislation.
On the offensive line, Bruffy has started in 22 games for the Red Raiders, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 accolades each of the last two seasons. He has already been named a team captain for the 2019 season, marking the second-consecutive year he has been elected to represent his teammates.
The final roster of 23 award recipients will be announced in September, bringing together 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, 11 student-athletes from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and NAIA as well as one honorary coach.
To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, each student-athlete must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing.
