Four Red Raiders Set For U.S. Amateur

LUBBOCK, Texas – Four Texas Tech golfers will compete in this week's 2019 U.S. Men's Amateur beginning on Monday at the Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina.
Rising senior Sandy Scott, junior Andy Lopez, sophomore Jansen Smith and incoming freshman Ludvig Aberg represent the Red Raiders in the 119th annual event. Monday tee times are: Scott (6:57 a.m., CST), Aberg (7:18 a.m.), Lopez (8:09 a.m.) and Smith (11:30 a.m.).
Smith qualified for the tournament by winning a qualifiers at The Territory in Duncan, Oklahoma, Lopez won the Bayou Oaks at City Park qualifier in New Orleans, while Scott and Aberg were automatic qualifiers with Top 50 in World Amateur Golf Rankings. Aberg is currently ranked No. 47 and Scott is at No. 51 with a best ranking of 38.Â
Competition begins with stroke play on Monday and Tuesday with 18 holes each day with the 312 field of amateur players being trimmed down to 64 for match play on Wednesday. Thursday will see two rounds with the tournament going from 32 to 16 before quarterfinal match play on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday and the 36-hole championship match on Sunday.
Match play will be broadcasted on FS1 beginning on Wednesday, while the semifinal and championship matched are featured on Fox.
