Red Raiders Complete Second Scrimmage of Fall Camp
August 17, 2019 | Football
Wells and crew take another step forward with the season opener versus Montana State two weeks away.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Preparation continues to ramp up for the Texas Tech football team as it completed its second preseason scrimmage on a hot Saturday afternoon at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Â
Head coach Matt Wells had the Red Raiders run just over 80 plays on the day while Red Raider Fandemonium took place just south of the stadium at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
"It was a lot better day by the offense in terms of putting the plays together and stringing success together," Wells said following the scrimmage. "I thought the defense on the flip side did a tremendous job in the red zone. They forced some field goals and gave up very few touchdowns. I thought it was a much better job by the kickers. We made field goals together and made it seem more like a football game."Â
Â
The Red Raiders will have Sunday off before returning to the practice field at the Football Training Facility on Monday afternoon. Tech will practice Monday-Thursday and again on Saturday before jumping into game week prep next week.
Â
Wells will make his debut as head coach of the Red Raiders in exactly two weeks when Tech hosts Montana State. Kickoff on Aug. 31 is slated for 3 p.m. on FOX Sports Net and the Texas Tech Sports Network.
