Hill Earns First Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week Nod

Texas Tech volleyball's Emily Hill earned weekly offensive honors.
IRVING, Texas - Collecting two double-doubles on opening weekend, Texas Tech volleyball's Emily Hill started her senior year with a bang and earned the Big 12 Conference's first Offensive Player of the Week award of 2019. The weekly nod is the first of her career.

The MVP of the Sports Imports Classic, Hill dominated the competition and led the league with a total of 66 kills on a .384 hitting percentage. After a 20-kill performance against VCU, she posted a career-high 29 kills in Tech's 3-2 victory over Ohio State and followed up with 17 more in Tech's weekend finale against Lehigh. Additionally, Hill leads the Red Raiders with nine service aces and 38 digs through 12 sets.

Hill, who drilled 5.50 kills per set with just 10 errors through 12 sets, began the weekend hitting .390 with 20 kills against VCU. She teamed up for five block assists and collected three aces against the Rams in Tech's first victory of the season. Later that night, she grabbed her first double-double of the year and helped the Red Raiders to what would be their second victory in program history against tournament host Ohio State.

The Denton, Texas, native dominated the Buckeyes and pounded a career-high 29 kills to help Tech win in five sets. She hit a monstrous .407 against Ohio State, which led all Big 12 players who went into five-set matches. Hill ground out 14 digs and posted two aces against Ohio State. Helping the Red Raiders to a perfect 3-0 record, Hill blasted 17 kills on a .348 hitting percentage against Lehigh. The Denton, Texas, native achieved her second double-double of the weekend thanks to 17 digs.

She nearly matched her career-high with four aces against the Mountain Hawks and she also went up on one block assist through four sets. Thanks to her nine aces on the weekend, Tech leads the Big 12 with a total of 25.

The Red Raiders are set to travel to Evanston, Ill., for three matches at the NU Under Armour Challenge on Sept. 6-7 before heading over to DeKalb, Ill., for a Sept. 9 contest at Northern Illinois.
