Bruffy is one of 30 FBS seniors selected as a candidate
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior offensive lineman Travis Bruffy continues to add to his impressive list of accolades as he was named Thursday one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award in collegiate football.
Â
Bruffy is among five student-athletes chosen from the state of Texas and nine across the Big 12 Conference.
Â
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
The nomination comes a day after he was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes the top football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership. He is one of 185 semifinalists, joining 70 others from the FBS.
Â
The Missouri City, Texas, native has started 25 games along the offensive line the last three seasons, holding down left tackle in 14 of the last 15 games. He boasts an impressive academic resume that includes a pair of Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors, the Big 12's Gautt Postgrad Scholarship and participation at the 2019 NCAA Autonomy Convention.
Â
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.Â
Â
To determine the final Senior CLASS Award winner, the 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. Along with the winner, the 10 finalists will be awarded Senior CLASS Award first- or second-team honors. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the football bowl season in January.
Â
Bruffy and the Red Raiders will travel to Norman, Okla., this weekend to open Big 12 play at No. 6 Oklahoma. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. on FOX and the Texas Tech Sports Network.
