Brewer Named to Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Midseason Team

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball senior Brittany Brewer is one of 15 players to be named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Midseason Team, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Thursday.

Brewer is the nation's leader in blocks through the halfway point of the season, rejecting 4.59 shots per game. She also ranks in the top five in the Big 12 in rebounds per game (10.4), defensive rebounds per game (7.0) and double-doubles (8).

The Abilene, Texas native tied the NCAA single-game blocks record with 16 to go along with 12 points and 14 rebounds against Louisiana Monroe in December for her first career triple double. She is the only player in the country averaging 10+ points, 10+ rebounds and 4.5+ blocks this season.

The winners of the Men's and Women's Naismith Defensive Player of the Year awards are chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's board of selectors, comprised of leading journalists from around the country, who based their selections on outstanding on-court defensive performances during the 2019-20 college basketball season.

Brewer and the Lady Raiders are back in action this weekend when they hit the road to face No. 1/2 Baylor at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Waco, Texas.
