Braadlie Two Back, Red Raiders Eye Second Round Surge

CARROLLTON, Texas – The Texas Tech men's golf team will look for a second-round surge on Monday at the Maridoe Collegiate following an opening round on Sunday that has the Red Raiders 11 strokes behind tournament leader Baylor at the Maridoe Golf Club. Playing as an individuals this week, Tech junior Markus Braadlie is in second place after shooting 2-under-par (70) while Kyle Hogan who was unable to finish his round due to darkness is currently seventh at 1-over.
Tech finished the opening round with a 310 (22-over) team total which has the team in seventh going into Monday's round that begins at 9 a.m. with tee times starting on hole No. 1. The Maridoe Collegiate is a 54-hole event that will be concluded on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,521-yard course. Baylor leads the 12-team event after shooting 11-over followed by North Texas (12-over), Pepperdine (14-over), Texas (15-over), Oklahoma State (16-over) and Kansas (18-over). The Red Raiders are one stroke ahead of Oklahoma going into Monday.
On Sunday, Sandy Scott, Ludvig Aberg and Garrett Martin led the team with 76s on each of their scorecards while Baard Skogen shot 10-over and Andy Lopez was at 11-over. The trio of 4-over rounds has them in a tie for 22nd with two rounds remaining. Braadlie finished his first round with a 70 after making five birdies in his round. He is currently two strokes back of Luke Kluver (Kansas) who carded the lone sub-70 round on Sunday. Along with Hogan, Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas was unable to complete his opening round and will complete it on Monday. He is currently at 6-over and tied for 33rd.
Lopez will begin the second round on Monday for the Red Raiders at 9 a.m. followed by Skogen, Martin, Aberg and Scott on the team side. Tech will be playing with Oklahoma, Kansas and Oklahoma State. Hogan and Braadlie start at 11:10 a.m. for their second round.
Following this week's tournament, Texas Tech will conclude its fall schedule at the prestigious East Lake Cup on Oct. 26-28 in Atlanta, Georgia.
