Sophomore earns sixth Big 12 weekly award after shutting out rival Texas.
IRVING, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore Madison White was named Tuesday the Big 12 Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week. It is White's sixth Big 12 weekly award.
"I'm thankful to be recognized by the Big 12 again," said White. "I couldn't be more excited about this coming weekend."
White picked up her first Big 12 award of the season following a home finale clean sheet against Texas. The Rockwall, Texas, native made six saves, including an incredible diving stop in the 37th minute, which helped send the game to halftime scoreless.
"Madi's play in net represents the response we have asked of everybody," said associate coach Gibbs Keeton. "Madi was great at shot stopping and showed immediate growth setting the pace of the game, commanding the back line and dominating the box. It was a big night for Madi, and it matched the expectation we have for her."
Last season, White tied a conference record for most weekly awards in a season with five en route to being named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year. Twice was she named Freshman of the Week – once after her college debut win over No. 22 USF and once after shutting out No. 18 Oklahoma State in her first start – before going on to win Defensive Player of the Week three times. She also garnered three TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week recognitions.
White's squad will close out its season Friday at Kansas State at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
