Lady Raiders Finish Day One at Fall Series Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Texas Tech women's tennis team closed out day one of the Fall Series Championships on Friday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

The day started in doubles where the Lady Raiders served up the event with a 4-1 combined mark. In the opening round, freshmen Camryn Stepp and Olivia Mikkelson opened their weekend with a victory over Lora Boggs and Mary Streller of Oklahoma State, before falling in the second round to Oklahoma State's tandem of Ayumi Miyamoto and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat.

After receiving byes in their respective doubles flights, the Lady Raider duos of Nell Miller and Kaitlin Staines, and Olivia Peet and Kailey Evans advanced with wins to open their weekend of competition. Miller and Staines dropped Baylor's Jessica Hinojosa and Livia Kraus, while Peet and Evans defeated Malkia Ngounoue and Julia Deming of Kansas.

In singles play, Evans and Stepp each tallied wins to advance to their flight's quarterfinals. Stepp knocked off Boggs in her first singles match of the tournament, while Evans swept Kansas State junior Anna Turco, 6-3, 6-1. In the quarterfinals, Evans fell to Deming, 7-6, 0-6, 10-7, while Stepp dropped her quarterfinal match to Baylor's Kristina Sorokolet, 6-3, 6-1.

In other singles first round action, Miller fell to Oklahoma's Carmen Corley, 6-3, 6-4, while Mikkelson and Staines were defeated in three sets by Iowa State's Christin Hsieh and Malkia Ngounoue of Kansas, respectively.

Play at the Fall Series Championships will continue on Saturday morning with two rounds of doubles, followed by a round of singles.
