Lady Raider Tennis Set to Open 2020 Home Schedule

LUBBOCK, Texas  – The Texas Tech women's tennis team opens its 2020 home schedule this weekend with four matches in four days, beginning on Friday.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE
The Lady Raiders open the weekend with a Friday doubleheader against South Carolina and Abilene Christian. First serve against the 25th-ranked Gamecocks is set for 3 p.m. on Friday at the McLeod Tennis Center, followed by a 7 p.m. match against the Wildcats at Lubbock Country Club.

Texas Tech will then return to the McLeod Tennis Center on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a big showdown against No. 5 NC State.

Finally, the Lady Raiders will wrap up the quick homestand on Monday at 1 p.m. against Denver.

ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
The Lady Raiders enter this weekend's action with a 2-2 record through their first four matches. Texas Tech is coming off a dominant, 4-1 win over Mississippi State earlier this month, with the team's other win coming in a 4-1 victory over Iowa at ITA Kickoff Weekend.

Two Texas Tech doubles teams made their first appearances in the ITA individual rankings last week, led by freshman Lisa Mays and sophomore Nell Miller at No. 35. Sophomore Olivia Peet and freshman Margarita Skriabina also appear in the poll, coming in at No. 52. Those two Lady Raider duos lead a Texas Tech doubles lineup that has won three of four doubles points this season.

The 2020 Lady Raiders are a young, but talented group, with three freshmen and three sophomores appearing in the Tech lineup.

LAST TIME OUT
The Texas Tech women's tennis team finished the weekend strong with an impressive 4-1 win over Mississippi State to wrap up the Big 12/SEC Tennis Challenge. Sophomore Olivia Peet picked up two ranked wins in the Texas Tech victory.

The Lady Raiders (2-2) picked up the doubles point with ranked wins on courts one and two. Lisa Mays and Nell Miller defeated No. 43 Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine in a 7-3 tiebreaker to take the match on court one. Olivia Peet and Margarita Skriabina earned a ranked win as well, defeating No. 45Â Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhailuk, 6-4, on court two.

ABOUT THE GAMECOCKS
No. 25 South Carolina comes to Lubbock with a 2-2 overall record so far this season, tallying wins over Purdue and Clemson. In the rankings, the Gamecocks have two singles players and one doubles team in the Oracle/ITA polls. Junior Megan Davies sits at No. 22, while senior Mia Horvit holds the No. 25 spot, both career-highs for the Gamecocks. In doubles, senior Silvia Chinellato and Emma Shelton currently sit in the No. 20 spot.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Abilene Christian enters the weekend at 3-4 overall, coming off a 7-0 loss at Tulsa last weekend. The Wildcats have notched victories over UTRGV, UTEP and Oral Roberts so far this season, and are looking to build on a 15-10 finish to their 2018-19 season which included a Southland Conference title.

ABOUT THE WOLFPACK
Coming into the weekend with the program's highest ranking in its history, No. 5 NC State is riding high off a 4-1 win over then-No. 3 Georgia on Sunday at the National Indoor Championships. The Wolfpack have four ranked wins this season, tallying wins over then-No. 9 South Carolina, No. 21 Florida and No. 17 Princeton to go along with their victory over the Bulldogs last week.

ABOUT THE PIONEERS
Denver will travel to Lubbock following a home match against Montana on Friday, looking to add to a 4-2 start that has brought the Pioneers wins over DePaul, South Florida, Gonzaga and Air Force. The Pioneers split last weekend with a 4-3 win against DePaul and a 4-3 loss to Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. Through six matches, junior Anna Riedmiller holds the only perfect mark for the Pioneers in singles play with a 4-0 record at #2.

Following this week's matches, the Lady Raiders will hit the road for a six-match roadtrip, beginning with a match at TCU on Feb. 23.
