February 21, 2020 | Women's Tennis
LUBBOCK, Texas  – The Texas Tech women's tennis team travels to Fort Worth to face TCU in a non-conference match this Sunday afternoon. First serve between the Lady Raiders and Horned Frogs is set for 3:30 p.m.
Â
ABOUT THE LADY RAIDERS
The Lady Raiders are looking to bounce back from a two-match skid after dropping a 5-2 bout with No. 5 NC State at home last Saturday and a tough, 4-3 match against current No. 33 Denver. Tech also picked up a 4-0 sweep of Abilene Christian on Friday night, and came up short to No. 25 South Carolina. Head coach Todd Petty has fielded a young lineup for the Lady Raiders this season, which features three freshmen and three sophomores along with one senior. Â
Â
IN THE RANKINGS
The Lady Raiders have one ranked singles player and one ranked doubles team in this week's rankings, released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Freshman Margarita Skriabina received her first career singles ranking, coming in at No. 107 in the latest poll. In doubles, Lisa Mays and Nell Miller came in at No. 50.
Â
ABOUT THE HORNED FROGS
TCU comes into the weekend at 2-3 overall, and will have a neutral site matchup with No. 12 Stanford on Friday before facing the Lady Raiders on Sunday. The Horned Frogs went 0-3 in Orlando, Fla., last weekend dropping matches to No. 16 UCF, Nebraska and UCSB, following season-opening wins over Rice and New Mexico. Two TCU players are represented in the latest ITA singles rankings: Marie Norris (No. 69) and Mercedes Aristegui (No. 119).
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Texas Tech women's tennis team fell, 4-3, to Denver on Monday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Â
The Lady Raiders opened the day with a 1-0 lead after picking up wins on the top two doubles courts to claim the doubles point. Â
LOOKING AHEAD
Following this weekend's action, Texas Tech will head to Tempe, Ariz., next Saturday (Feb. 29) for a road match at No. 24 Arizona State.
