Red Raiders Move Up to Fourth at Amer Ari Intercollegiate

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii – Texas Tech moved up to fourth place and Ludvig Aberg is in third at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate after the completion of two of three rounds at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
Aberg is at 10-under-par and just three strokes back of the tournament leader after shooting 4-under on Friday after carding a first-round 66 in Thursday's opening round. A freshman from Sweden, Aberg has recorded 66-68 – 134 which puts him in striking distance of tournament leader Tyler Strafaci (Georgia Tech) who is at 13-under going into Saturday's final round.
The Red Raiders are in a tie for fourth place with Pepperdine after shooting 11-under as a team on Friday. Tech is at 278-277 – 555 through two rounds and is 12 strokes behind Georgia Tech (33-under) which owns the lead after posting 274-269 – 543. Texas is currently second at 28-under followed by Arizona State at 26-under.
Texas Tech junior Andy Lopez shot up the leaderboard to 17th after a round of 5-under on Friday following shooting even-par on Thursday. He finished his second round bogey-free and with five birdies to get to the top-15. Aberg followed his opening round of 6-under by shooting 4-under without a bogey on Friday. He birdied four holes, including three par 4s and one par 5. He now has made 13 birdies through 36 holes. Sandy Scott will go into Saturday's final round tied for 22nd with a two-day scorecard of 68-72 – 140 and is tied with teammate Markus Braadlie who is at 67-73 – 140 as he plays as an individual this week.
Garrett Martin shot 2-under on Friday and is tied for 47th with a 73-70 – 143 scorecard, while Kyle Hogan is at even-par through two rounds after posting 72-72 – 144. Hogan recorded five birdies on Friday, but also had three bogeys and a double bogey to finish at even-par for the second straight day in Hawaii. Martin recorded six birdies in his second round to post a 2-under following a round of 1-under to begin the tournament.
Strafaci leads the tournament with a 64-67 – 131 on the board, while Aman Gupta (Oklahoma State) is in second at 11-under followed by Aberg, Andy Ogletree (Georgia Tech) and Sahith Theegala (Pepperdine) who are all at 10-under and tied for fourth.
The tournament is scheduled to resume at 11:30 a.m. (CST) on Saturday with a shot gun start.
The Amer Ari Intercollegiate is the start of a six-tournament spring schedule that will lead into the Big 12 Championship on April 27-29 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Red Raiders will return from Hawaii to compete at The Prestige on Feb. 17-19 in Palm Springs, California.
