Davis Tallies Hat Trick, Tech Shuts Out LSU
February 29, 2020 | Women's Soccer
Dominant second half from Kirsten Davis sinks Tigers in Bossier City.
BOSSIER CITY, La. – Kirsten Davis and three second half goals were plenty to complete Texas Tech soccer's 3-0 Saturday blowout of LSU at the annual First Bossier Soccer Classic.
Davis was after the Tiger defense from the beginning, spearheading the Tech attack and getting her first chance in the 16th minute, where she went off the low post. Despite multiple good runs by the Red Raiders, the Tigers held their own and did well getting their bodies in front of shots.
Tech had two good looks in the closing minutes of the first half. Charlotte Teeter, who scored a goal and assisted on another in the win over Abilene Christian, sent a cross into the box toward Jen Rose. The sophomore rose and connected on the header, but it went just wide of net. One minute before the whistle, early enrollee Gisselle Kozarski went wide left on her first shot attempt of the spring and the teams would enter the half scoreless.
The scoreboard was silent for not six minutes into the second half before Davis broke through for her third score of the spring. The goal came from Kozarski, who chipped a ball into a Davis so the junior could beat the keeper. Three minutes later, Davis would score again to double the Tech lead. Nine minutes after that, she would go for the hat trick and make it 3-0. It is the first hat trick for a Red Raider since last spring, when Demi Koulizakis knocked in three in a rout of Lubbock Christian.
Tech will continue its spring with its third exhibition in as many weeks Saturday, traveling to Denton, Texas, for a friendly with Oklahoma.
