Tech lands two on CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday its picks for the annual Academic All-District teams. Representing Texas Tech on CoSIDA's list are Kaylee Hinton and Chinne Okoronkwo, both of whom are celebrating their first career Academic All-District recognition. Â
Â
As Academic All-District honorees, the pair of Red Raiders will advance to the ballot for recognition as an Academic All-American, which will be announced June 22-25.Â
Â
Hinton, a redshirt senior multis athlete, is a mass communications student at Tech who held a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the season term. The Rockwall, Texas, native was this week named an All-American by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the third time in her career. Hinton's award comes after qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the pentathlon in a shortened indoor season. She rounded out her indoor season with a runner-up performance in the pentathlon at the Big 12 Championships after recording a Tech conference title-meet record 4,105 points.Â
Â
Okoronkwo's recognition also counts as the first of her career. Okoronkwo, an interior design major, was also named an All-American this week. The Applewood, Wash., native successfully defended her Big 12 indoor pole vault title in February. Counting last season's outdoor campaign, it marks her third conference title in the event. Okoronkwo was primed for her second straight indoor nationals meet as a Red Raider, poised to enter boasting a season-best mark of 14'-3.25" (4.35m) – two inches off the school record.Â
