The Players' Journal - #StayingStrongAll2020
May 06, 2020 | Softball

We have officially been without softball for eight weeks. For eight weeks I haven't heard Erin sing "Set It Off." Â For eight weeks I haven't sent Olga a text at midnight asking if she can braid my hair in the morning. For eight weeks I haven't had to do three-way planks for warm up. Looking back at the calendar, time has flown by. I never knew how much softball meant to me until it was stripped away from me.
With finals week approaching, it really hit me that we are missing out on so many crucial memories that come in the month of May. This week we would have been chasing after our first Big XII championship, then coming home to sit in front of the TV waiting for our name to be called. Being a collegiate athlete, we work for these moments every single day. Now the closest I get to these hype moments is watching reruns of our games and screaming as if I am there.
All of my teammates know I keep my head in the books and that has not changed. My daily routine consists of homework, studying, working out, napping with my two dogs, feeding carrots endlessly to my guinea pigs and watching the office. I have found another way to practice self-care and it is writing in a journal that you document your daily self-care, (I got it from Target, you're welcome). It is hard going every day without getting to spend time with 23 of my best friends but being able to snapchat and FaceTime them makes it a little easier. I reminisce on all of our videos and pictures and cannot help but smile.
I have no doubt that God is meticulous in his planning for us. With Governor Abbott lifting the stay home order, we are going to regain some normalcy. We must remain cautious and continue to think of not only ourselves but of others. I miss feeling the immense amount of love from our fans in whatever city we might be in, but everyone being safe and healthy will always come first. This will be over soon, and we will join each other again at The Rock in 2021.
