Sands Earns Central Region Coach of the Year

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech coach Greg Sands has earned the Golf Coaches Association of America's Central Region Coach of the Year after leading the Red Raiders to three tournament victories and a No. 3 national ranking at the completion of the shortened season.
Sands, who was a finalist for the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year award, guided Texas Tech to tournament victories at The Carmel Cup to open the season at Pebble Beach and followed it by winning the Iverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio. The Red Raiders won their third straight title by winning the Big 12 Match Play Tournament where they were 5-0 and claimed the championship with a win over Kansas in the final.
Along with team success, Sands helped the program to three individual titles during the year with Sandy Scott winning The Carmel Cup, Andy Lopez winning the Iverness and Markus Braadlie earning a win at the Little Rock First Tee Classic. After the season, Scott, Lopez and Kyle Hogan were each named Golfweek All-Americans and Scott, Hogan, Lopez and Braadlie each claimed Academic All-Big 12 Honors.
In the rankings, Sands and the Red Raiders finished the season at No. 3 in the Golfstat and Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll after a season where the team finished in the top-4 in six of seven tournaments played.
