Lady Raider Tennis Opens Fall Slate

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team opens it's fall tournament schedule this weekend as it hosts the West Texas Pro Tennis September Open. The tournament is part of the UTR Open Series, and runs from Friday to Sunday at the McLeod Tennis Complex.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only singles will be played. Draws for the event will be released on Thursday evening on the tournament website.

Two returning Lady Raiders, Olivia Peet and Nell Miller, will compete at the event after their sophomore seasons were cut short due to COVID-19 in the spring. Both Peet and Miller will compete unattached.

Lady Raider fans will get their first look at three Texas Tech newcomers this weekend as well.

Kaitlin Staines transferred to Texas Tech from Tennessee this summer. Staines, a 2019 ITA All-American in doubles, has been a three-year standout at Tennessee, contributing in both singles and doubles for the Volunteers. The Wagga Wagga, Australia native went 52-33 in singles and 56-20 in doubles during her time in Knoxville. Staines will compete unattached.

Competing attached for the Lady Raiders will be freshmen Camryn Stepp and Olivia Mikkelson.
