Red Raiders Begin Season at Colonial Collegiate

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas Tech senior Sandy Scott is in a four-way tie for first place and the Red Raiders are tied for fourth after Monday's play at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational.
Scott is at 1-under-par through 36 holes at the Colonial Country Club going into Tuesday's final round against the field which includes all Big 12 opponents. Tech is at 13-over through the opening two rounds after shooting 288-285 – 573, while Oklahoma leads the tournament at 3-under, 557 as a team. OU is followed by Texas (561), Kansas (570) and Tech and Kansas State who are tied. Â
Scott led the Red Raiders on the first day of the 2020-21 season after carding a 67-72 – 139 followed by freshman Baard Skogen who shot 74-70 – 144 (4-over) which puts him in a tie for 20th. Tech sophomore Ludvig Aberg recorded a two-round scorecard of 72-73 – 145 which has him in 22nd and Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas goes into the third round in a tie for 28th with a 75-71 – 146. Andy Lopez is just two strokes back of Meen Fosaas after shooting 76-72 – 148 and Garrett Martin finished at 77-73 – 150.
Atop the individual leaderboard, Scott is joined by Quade Cummins (Oklahoma), Harry Hillier (Kansas) and Travis Vick (Texas) who are all at 1-under through 36 holes. Aberg leads Tech with eight birdies going into Tuesday, while Skogen and Scott made five each on Monday. The Red Raiders are third in the tournament with 29 and are second with a 4.12 scoring average on par 4s.
The Red Raiders were tied for seventh after Monday's opening round where they shot 8-over as a team, led by Scott who was in second at 3-under. Scott, who was coming off playing at the U.S. Open Championship two weeks ago, made par on his opening hole before running off four straight birdies to begin the season. He would go on to make one more birdie in the opening round to go along with two bogeys and 11 pars to be one shot back of Coody who led after one round at 4-under. Aberg was in 19th after the opening round at 2-over in a round where he made five birdies but also three double bogeys, while Skogen (4-over) and Meen Fosaas (5-over) were in the top-40 after 18 holes of competition.
Texas led after the first round at 3-under followed by TCU and Kansas who were both at 2-over for second and Oklahoma and Oklahoma State (4-over). Coody led individually in a 4-under round where he made four birdies and 14 pars. Scott was one of nine players to shoot under-par in the opening round.
The Red Raiders and the Big 12 field will return to competition this weekend at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament in Hockley, Texas at Houston Oaks. Tech is the reigning tournament champion after winning the second annual event last season.
