Lady Raider Tennis Picked Fourth in Big 12 Preseason Poll

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's tennis team was selected fourth in the Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll, released on Tuesday by the conference.

The Lady Raiders return five players from a season ago, while also bringing four freshmen and All-American Kaitlin Staines into the fold for 2021. The team will look to continue to build on the progress of last season—which was cancelled in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, just a couple of weeks after the young team upset No. 26 Arizona State in Tempe.

On the women's side, Texas was selected as the preseason favorite for a third-consecutive year and fourth overall with seven first-place votes and 79 points. Oklahoma State was tabbed No. 2 with 74 overall points and two first-place nods, while Baylor was projected third with one first-place vote and 66 points. The Lady Raiders (49), Kansas (48), Oklahoma (47), Kansas State (31), TCU (24), Iowa State (23) and West Virginia (9) completed the poll order.

The Lady Raiders are currently competing at the Big 12/Pac-12 Mock Duals, but will begin dual action next week when the they travel to Norman, Okla., to face Kansas State, Tulsa and Oklahoma.
