PREVIEW: Blessings Collegiate Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 9-ranked Texas Tech men's golf team will compete at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational presented by Tyson Foods next week at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The three-day, 54-hole stroke play event is set for one round on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with live coverage each day from 3-6 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
The Red Raiders will be playing in their final stroke play tournament of the fall with the trip to Arkansas before finishing off the fall portion of the schedule at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Oct. 11-13 at Houston Oaks. The Texas Tech women's golf team will also be competing in the tournament.
Texas Tech will be represented at the tournament by Ludvig Aberg, Kyle Hogan, Baard Skogen, Garrett Martin and Calum Scott. Aberg comes into the event at No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, while Skogen looks to continue his momentum after finishing as the runner-up at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational. A sophomore from Norway, Skogen shot 7-under at the Maridoe to force a playoff before taking second for his best collegiate showing. Skogen has recorded top-10 finishes in the first two tournaments this season after shooting 3-under and finishing 10th at The Carmel Cup.
Hogan led Texas Tech in the season-opening tournament at Pebble Beach where he shot 5-under for third place at The Carmel Cup. A super senior from Houston, Hogan finished 28th at the Maridoe while Martin shot 5-over to finish 20th after taking 24th overall at The Carmel Cup. A freshman from Scotland, Scott shot even-par at The Carmel Cup to finish 20th for his best result this season.
TTU will be competing against Arizona, Arkansas, Houston, Illinois, Louisville, North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee and UCLA at the second annual event. Last season the SEC comprised the full field with Alabama winning the men's tournament. Tournament awards includes men's team champion, individual champion, men/women combined team champion and men/women combined best ball individual champion.
