November 17, 2021 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will be represented by two players at the PGA Tour's RSM Classic with Ludvig Aberg and Mito Pereira set to compete at the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Aberg will tee off on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. (CST) and Pereira at 10:30 a.m. for the first round with both Red Raiders beginning the tournament on the back-9 of the course. The RSM Classic will be broadcasted Thursday-Sunday on the Golf Chanel.
Aberg and Pereira are in the same PGA Tour event again after playing at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship at the end of October. Pereira finished in 30th overall at 6-under and Aberg at 2-under (T51) on the Port Royal Golf Course in his first PGA Tour event.Â
Aberg, who is No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, earned the spot in the RSM Classic by winning the 2021 Jones Cup Invitational.
A Santiago, Chile native, Pereira is a rookie on the PGA Tour after he earned wins at the BMW Charity Pro-Am, REX Hospital Open and Country Club de Bogota Championship on the Korn Ferry this season to secure a Three-Victory Promotion to the PGA Tour. Pereira finished his freshman season at Texas Tech (2014-15) with a 72.2 stroke average and earned Big 12 All-Tournament Team honors after shooting 9-under for eighth place at the tournament in Tulsa. He finished third at the Fortinet Championship in September for his best finish on Tour. Pereira was tied for 63rd after shooting a 73 with three birdies on his scorecard in the first round before shooting 3-under on Friday.
Robert Streb won last year's RSM Classic at 19-under and a birdie on the second playoff hole to top Kevin Kisner for the title.
The No. 11 Red Raiders completed their fall schedule and will return to action in February in Hawaii to begin the spring schedule.
