Aberg, Pereira begin RSM Classic

SEA ISLAND, Georgia – Texas Tech junior Ludvig Aberg is at even-par at the PGA Tour's RSM Classic, while former Red Raider Mito Pereira is 3-under with an opening-round 67 on Thursday at the Sea Island Golf Club.
Aberg, who earned a spot in the PGA Tour event by winning the 2021 Jones Cup Invitational and is currently 136th, was 3-under through his opening 12 holes. He started the tournament with a birdie on his first hole and would make his fifth birdie of his round on his 17th hole. Aberg would make one bogey and one quadruple bogey to finish with his 72.
Pereira will go into the second round in 83rd after making six birdies in the first round. He got to 5-under before a double on his 16th hole of the day put him at 3-under for the day. Pereira hit 10 of 14 fairways and 16 of 18 greens in regulation, finishing at 3 under for the tournament. On the 429-yard par-4 fourth hole, Pereira reached the green in 2 and sunk a 17-foot putt for birdie. This moved Pereira to 5 under for the round.
Sebastian Munoz leads the tournament at 10-under, while a contingent consisting of Scott Stallings, Zach Johnson, Mackenzie Hughes and Chez Reavie are at 9-under going into Friday.
Aberg will begin his second round at 10:30 a.m. in a pairing with Seth Reeves and Kurt Kitayama, while Pereira is at 9:20 a.m. at the Sea Island Golf Club.
