Staines Named Big 12 Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's tennis junior Kaitlin Staines has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The recognition marks the first career Big 12 weekly honor for Staines, who transferred to Tech from Tennessee last summer.

Staines was huge for the Lady Raiders this weekend, helping Tech to its first top-25Â win of the season in a 4-3 victory over No. 23 Arizona State on Saturday.

The Wagga Wagga, Australia product picked up her second ranked victory of the season, moving up to the No. 1 singles spot for Tech and tallying a big victory over No. 37 Ilze Hattingh, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0 to give Tech a 2-1 lead in the match. The win would go on to be crucial to the Lady Raider win.

Staines is now 7-5 overall on the season in singles and 3-1 in dual play.

The Lady Raiders will be back in action this weekend when they play host to SMU on Saturday, and New Mexico and Abilene Christian on Sunday.
