The Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year adds another honor ahead of the 2021 season
LUBBOCK, Texas – For the fourth consecutive year, a Red Raider will start the year on the watch list for one of college baseball's most prestigious awards as Dylan Neuse was placed on the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced Thursday.
Neuse is one of 55 players on the initial watch list for the award, which is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the nation.
Under Tim Tadlock, Texas Tech baseball has had five players earn a spot on the Golden Spikes preseason watch list, including each of the last four seasons. Eric Gutierrez was the first under Tadlock in 2015, while Steven Gingery got the current streak rolling in 2018, followed by Josh Jung in 2019 and Brian Klein in 2020.
One of four Big 12 players on the list, Neuse adds yet another preseason accolade to his collection after hitting .355 in the shortened 2020 season while leading the conference in runs scored. The Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year earned his latest honor Wednesday, being named Second Team All-America by the NCBWA.
Neuse and the No. 3 Red Raiders open the season Feb. 20-22 at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington against No. 8 Arkansas, No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 7 Mississippi State. The three-day event was originally slated to begin Friday, but has been pushed back a day due to hazardous weather conditions throughout Texas.
