Texas Tech will be one of five ranked teams in stout 15-team field that tees off Sunday
LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The Texas Tech women's golf team will compete for the second time in as many weeks beginning Sunday when the Red Raiders tee off at the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate held at the Founders Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida.
Â
The Red Raiders, now ranked 14th nationally by GolfStat, are coming off a fifth-place finish less than a week ago at the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, where Sofia Garcia notched a top-10 finish with a pair of under-par rounds. It was Tech's third top-five finish this season in four tournament where team scores were counted.
Â
The Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate is a new event for collegiate golf hosted by Purdue, benefitting the Army Ranger Lead the Way Fund. The three-day, 54-hole event will tee off with a 7 a.m. CT start Sunday morning and feature a single round each day.
Â
Junior Sofia Garcia, coming off a seventh-place finish this past week, headlines the Red Raiders' lineup as she will be joined by fellow junior Amy Taylor. Sophomore Anna Dong, meanwhile, will make her first start of the spring, while sophomore Cecilie Nielsen and freshman Gala Dumez round out the lineup.
Â
Purdue will host the 15-team field, which features five teams ranked in the top-15 by GolfStat, including No. 3 Ole Miss, No. 6 Georgia, No. 10 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Tennessee as well as the 14th-ranked Red Raiders. Fellow Big 12 counterpart Iowa State will also travel to Florida for the event.
Â
Live scoring for the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate will be available via Golfstat.com. Â
