Fulford Placed on Buster Posey Award Watch List

Award given annually to the nation’s top catcher
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Baseball's Braxton Fulford was one of 69 catchers named to the initial watch list for the 2021 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced this week.
Â
It's the second consecutive year Fulford has been tabbed to the initial watch list for the award, which is presented annually to the nation's top catcher. He is one of three Big 12 players represented.
Â
The Lubbock, Texas native, is hitting .308 for the year with three home runs, three doubles and nine RBI. He's also been solid defensively, throwing out 3-of-7 potential base stealers.
Â
Fulford made his 100th career start behind the plate last Saturday at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. He blasted two home runs the night prior in a win over Texas State, and earned a spot on the event's All-Tournament Team. Â
Â
Often praised for his defensive ability, Fulford has steadily improved at the plate throughout his career. His batting average jumped over 100 points between his freshman and sophomore season. As a junior in 2021, he's hitting over .300 for the first time and is already one home run shy of matching his season-best of four from 2019.
Â
The watch list will be narrowed down to semifinalists on May 20.
Â
Fulford and the Red Raiders return to action on Friday to kick off a four-game home stand against UConn. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
