Martin, Aberg Earn Top-5 Showings in Austin

AUSTIN – Texas Tech sophomores Garrett Martin and Ludvig Aberg tied for third at the George Hannon Invitational by finishing at 5-under-par at The University of Texas Golf Club.
The No. 19 Red Raiders tied for second in the team standings after shooting 9-under in the final round on Tuesday following finishing at even-par through 36 holes to begin the tournament on Monday. Tech completed the third tournament of its spring season by carding a 286-282-275 – 843 to finish behind No. 12 Texas which won its home tournament at 17-under and tying No. 2 Oklahoma which was 4-over in its final round.
Martin completed the tournament by shooting 1-under in his final round after a pair of 2-unders on Monday, while Aberg rocketed up the leaderboard again in the final round by shooting 6-under (65) on his final 18. Aberg finished his round with seven birdies and is now 13-under in the final round of the past two tournaments after shooting 7-under in the final round of the Cabo Collegiate where he finished fifth. At No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, he has now recorded top-5 finishes in all three tournaments this spring after also winning The Prestige to open the year. He finished the tournament in Austin with a scorecard that read: 73-70-65 – 208.
Andy Lopez closed out the tournament with a 3-under 68 with four birdies which put him in 18th after all golfers were off the course. Kyle Hogan took 24th at 4-over for the two-day, three-round tournament and Baard Skogen shot 6-over.
Pierceson Coody won the tournament at 11-under on his home course for the Longhorns, while Logan McAllister (Oklahoma) took second at 7-under. Coody finished the tournament with 16 birdies while Aberg had 13. Skogen was second at the tournament by making 39 pars through 54 holes.
TTU has three regular-season tournaments remaining after this week in Austin leading into the Big 12 Championship which is scheduled for April 26-28 at Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Red Raiders will follow up with a trip to Mississippi by playing in the Old Waverly Collegiate (March 26-28) and then the Aggie Invitational on April 9-11 at the Traditions Golf Club in College Station. The final tournament leading into the postseason takes TTU to Phoenix for the Thunderbird Collegiate on April 16-17.
