Hogan in Contention at Cabo Collegiate

SAN ANTONIO – Texas Tech senior Kyle Hogan shot 2-under-par at the Cabo Collegiate on Tuesday and will go into the final round tied for fifth at TPC San Antonio Oaks.
Hogan completed his second round with three birdies and only one bogey and is currently at 1-over (75-70 – 145) going into Wednesday's championship round. The Red Raiders are in 10th place in the 16-team tournament at 25-over with a scorecard of 306-295 – 601 at their second spring tournament. Oklahoma leads the tournament at 6-over followed by Florida State (9-over) and Texas A&M (10-over).
The Cabo Collegiate medalist will earn an exemption to compete in the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open. Â
Florida State's Vincent Norman leads the tournament at 3-under after shooting 4-under on Tuesday, while Garett Reband (Oklahoma), Sam Bennett (Texas A&M) and Pierceson Coody (Texas) are one shot ahead of Hogan at even-par through two rounds.
Texas Tech sophomore Ludvig Aberg is tied for 23rd going into the final round at 5-over (75-74 – 149), while Baard Skogen is in 56th with a card of 78-77 – 155. Garrett Martin and Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas are both at 13-over which has them tied at 69 through 36 holes. Aberg is at No. 4 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and is coming off his first collegiate win at The Prestige two weeks ago. He finished his second round in San Antonio with two birdies but also had four bogeys in his round of 2-over.
Hogan finds himself in contention for his second title of the season after he also won the Colonial Collegiate in the fall. He shot 3-over on Monday during the opening round before responding on Tuesday with the 2-under round. A senior from Cypress, Hogan leads the tournament with 27 pars through 36 holes of competition to go along with four birdies. Hogan has already earned one PGA Tour exemption this season with his win that put him into the Houston Open.Â
The Valero Open is scheduled for March 29-April 4. The Valero Texas Open is the sixth-oldest professional tournament in golf worldwide, the third-oldest on the PGA TOUR and the longest held in the same city. In 2022, the tournament will celebrate its 100th anniversary. The Red Raiders will remain in Texas for their next tournament too, playing at the Texas Invitational (March 15-16) in Austin.
