Aberg Leads Tech on First Day of Big 12 Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kansas – Texas Tech sophomore Ludvig Aberg is at 3-over-par which has him in third at the 2021 Big 12 Championship, while the No. 22 Red Raiders are fourth after 36 holes of play on Monday at the Prairie Dunes Country Club.
The Red Raiders are at 30-over after carding 301-289 – 590 on the first day, while Oklahoma leads the tournament at 17-over (291-286) followed by Oklahoma State (18-over) and Texas (25-over). The 72-hole tournament will continue with 18 holes on Tuesday before the final round to determine the championship set for Wednesday.
Aberg, who is playing in his first Big 12 Championship, shot 71-72 – 143 for his 3-over total through two of four rounds and is four back of the leaders Bo Jin (Oklahoma State) and Quade Cummins (Oklahoma) who are at 1-under going into Tuesday. A pair of Tech seniors are in the top-20 with Andy Lopez shooting 77-71 (8-over) and Kyle Hogan at 9-over after posting 77-72 on Monday.
Tech freshman Baard Skogen is in 30th at 12-over after his first two rounds of posting 78-74 and Garrett Martin shot 76-79 (15-over) which has him in 40th with two rounds to play.
The Red Raiders opened the day by shooting 14-over (301) which put them in sixth place, 11 behind Texas which was at 290 and a tie between TCU and Oklahoma for second with 291 team totals. After the opening round, Aberg found himself in fourth individually after shooting a 1-over, 71 following birdieing four of his first 18 holes of the championship event. Aberg made five bogeys to start the tournament, including on his finishing hole going into Monday's second round. Hogan was at 3-over after his first round, making Tech's lone eagle on the par 5, 521-yard No. 7 hole and also making two birdies. His round also included three bogeys and two quadruple bogeys for his round of 77.
