New program is intended for children and grandchildren of Texas Tech letterwinners
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Double T Varsity Club has officially launched a new program dubbed The Legacy Team, which is designed exclusively for the children and grandchildren of Texas Tech letterwinners.
Â
The Legacy Team is intended for any child that is a newborn up to 12 years of age who has a parent or grandparent that was a former Texas Tech student-athlete, coach, manager or trainer. The program will help create a deep appreciation for the university and its traditions, while also providing members exclusive benefits over the course of the year.
Â
"Once a student-athlete steps foot on our campus, they become part of the Texas Tech family," Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. "The Legacy Team will provide an avenue to continue our relationship with our letterwinners and their families once their time as a student-athlete is over. We are excited to incorporate so many future Red Raiders to our events through the Legacy Team."
Â
As part of the program, Legacy Team members can expect to receive gifts and recognition throughout the year as well as unique experiences, including special Double T Varsity Club events and an annual field day each summer.
Â
Membership costs run $20 per child annually to cover actual costs of items received, per NCAA guidelines. These funds will go to support the Legacy Team Initiative.
Â
"This is an initiative we are excited to launch for our letterwinners," said Rodney Allison, executive director of the Double T Varsity Club. "I know personally the sense of pride of being a Texas Tech letterwinner, and our goal is to instill that same sense of appreciation for this university and athletics program in the future generations of Red Raiders."
Â
The Double T Varsity Club is the formal letterwinner association for Texas Tech Athletics, boasting more than 3,000 active members. The DTVC continues to grow as Allison and his staff regularly contact former letterwinners in order to reconnect them with Texas Tech Athletics and the organization's numerous events such as reunions, the Hall of Fame banquet and pregame tailgates.
