Texas Tech ranked second among state FBS programs with five first-team honorees Thursday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech was represented by six Red Raiders named to the Dave Campbell's All-Texas preseason teams that were announced Thursday ahead of the publication's summer magazine release.
Â
The Red Raiders ranked tied for second with SMU after receiving six total selections to one of the two teams, including five on the first team alone. The five selections to the first team trailed only Texas A&M for the most among state FBS programs as the Aggies led all programs with 10 total honorees.
Â
The Red Raider offense headlined the selections with incoming quarterback Tyler Shough tabbed to the first team alongside wide receiver Erik Ezukanma and offensive lineman Dawson Deaton. They were joined on the first team by returning two-time All-Big 12 first team punter Austin McNamara and linebacker Colin Schooler.
Â
T.J. Storment, a transfer offensive lineman who played at TCU in 2020, rounded out Tech's list of honorees on the second team. In addition to naming two preseason teams, Dave Campbell's tabbed Shough as the best quarterback in the state, while McNamara was the top special teams standout.
Â
The Red Raiders began summer workouts last week in preparation for their Sept. 4 season opener against Houston in the Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium.
