Petty Announces Signing of Sayfetdinova

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech women's tennis coach Todd Petty announced the signing of Russian standout Avelina Sayfetdinova on Wednesday. Hailing from Moscow, Sayfetdinova will join the Lady Raiders for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

Sayfetdinova boasts a career-high WTA world doubles ranking of No. 859 and a high ITF world singles ranking of No. 923. Currently slotted with a career high Universal Tennis Rating of 11.6, she also is ranked as the No. 110 junior in the world.

Having racked up nine ITF junior doubles titles, Sayfetdinova competed at the Australian Open in juniors and is a member of the Russian national team.

In professional tournament action, the Russian product has racked up 13 wins in 25 singles matches since 2017, while in doubles she has compiled nine wins in 17 appearances.

Since 2017, Sayfetdinova has reached the singles main draw in seven of her professional tournament appearances, while reaching as far as the round of 16 a pair of times.

In doubles, teamed up with Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, Sayfetdinova reached the 2019 Shymkent 8 ITF doubles final. It marked one of four pro events in which she advanced to or past the doubles  quarterfinals that year.

Sayfetdinova will join Cristina Tiglea, who signed with the Lady Raiders in June, as a newcomer on the 2022 squad. Petty returns a solid young core that advanced to the round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament in 2021 after finishing third in the Big 12.
