Leadership council was elected Thursday afternoon prior to the start of preseason camp
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells announced 13 members to his leadership council Thursday as the Red Raiders wrapped their official reporting day prior to the start of preseason camp.
Â
The leadership council, which is elected in a vote of their teammates, represents one of the core tenants of Wells' program – player-led leadership. The council will meet with Wells throughout the season on important issues and will have four members represent the Red Raiders each gameday at the coin toss.
Â
Classifications for the leadership council range from seven seniors to one sophomore in offensive lineman Caleb Rogers. The seven seniors include linebackers Colin Schooler and Riko Jeffers, offensive linemen Josh Burger and Dawson Deaton, defensive backs DaMarcus Fields and Marquis Waters and inside receiver McLane Mannix.
Â
The junior class has the remaining five representatives in defensive linemen Tony Bradford Jr. and Jaylon Hutchings as well as quarterback Tyler Shough, wide receiver Erik Ezukanma and running back SaRodorick Thompson.
Â
The Red Raiders open preseason practices Friday afternoon with a 2 p.m. workout outside the Football Training Facility. The Red Raiders will have around four weeks of preseason practices before opening the 2021 season Sept. 4 against Houston in the Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium.
