Usoro was one of two Big 12 student-athletes named to the list
LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior jumps specialist Ruth Usoro was named to the 2022 Preseason Bowerman Watch List Wednesday afternoon.
It marks the eighth time that Usoro lands on the list which makes her the co-active leader with Tyra Gittens of Texas A&M. In Texas Tech history, only 2019 men's finalist Divine Oduduru has had more career appearances (10).
"There could not be a more deserving person than Ruth to be on the Bowerman Watch List," said head track and field coach Wes Kittley. "Two-time national champion, Olympian, and Academic All-American!"
Usoro is coming off a year in which she was undefeated in the triple jump all year as she swept the Big 12 and NCAA indoor and outdoor titles. She also added a long jump title to her trophy case in 2021 from the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
"We're happy for Ruth to be on The Bowerman Watch List," said assistant coach for jumps and multis Keith Herston. "She is very deserving of this, and we're excited to see Ruth compete and progress throughout the season."
The Red Raiders are set to start the 2022 indoor campaign on Jan. 14 in the annual Texas Tech Corky Classic at the Sports Performance Center. More information on the two-day event can be found here.
