WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
HC GREG SANDS:
"Match play has a lot more variability. If a kid like Ludvig goes out and shoots a round like 63 it helps a team score tremendously. In match play, it only gets you one point. You have to play well up-and-down the lineup when you're playing six players and trying to get to 3.5 points. I think our depth will shine, we're confident of that. But at the same time you can play really well and win two or three matches by a big margin and not win the overall session. It very much brings the field in and makes it so that anyone can win."
On having a roster that includes five guys who have played in match play events:
"Our experience should help us tremendously because all six players count this week. Our roster throughout holds up well as compared to the rest of the Big 12 and I think most coaches would agree that 1-7 we have the most depth in the conference. I hope depth will show up in this kind of format. And then we've played a lot of meaningful match play events and have multiple guys still left from last year's team that made match play at Grayhawk and won the Big 12 event in 2019. So, we've got a bit of experience with this golf course and how to play it and succeed. All that puts a big target on our back, but we'll embrace that, and go play to our standard."
